Now that we've launched I though it was high time I start my own blog. I've been busy with the organisational side of things, so my pledge has some way to go before it's ready to paint; but I'm sure I can catch up fairly quickly.

My pledge this month is Braygor Dwarfbane (my general) and the Sons of Braygor - a unit of Perry Gors.

A Middlehammer Tale was originally meant to be a Tale of Four Gamers event with just a few people involved and it was my need to paint Beastmen (as Paul Sawyer had 25 years earlier) that triggered the idea.

The project has evolved in the last month, but those Beastmen still need painting.

If I have time I will also try to add a few Ungor. My concept for Beastmen is that various runts and wild creatures flit around the edges of the herd, picking up scraps and sheltering in the shadow of their more powerful cousins. As such I won't be including things like Ungor, Harpies, Wolves (I am collecting for Oathmark, in which my army will count as Orcs and Goblins), etc in my formal pledges; but I will paint a few at a time when I have a gap in my schedule. This will represent the dregs of Beastmen society slowly gathering around the main War Herd as it gains power and prestige.

With Chapter Two's preview now up on the website I also get to consider June's pledge - covering scouts and foragers. My current plan is to pledge 10 Centigors. Should I have time I would also then like to add a chariot, as I have three to paint over the next 6 months. Finally (and only if I'm painting at a speed I never usually achieve) I could imagine the army's march might draw the attention of a few Harpies - perhaps to feed on the bodies of foes crushed beneath the hooves and wheels of the other units.

Should I reach my stretch goals for those two months then it might be time for my son and I to play a few practice games of Oathmark. He hopes to have painted a general and 20 Dwarf Warriors in May; with some Rangers to follow in June. He will be working with Oathmark Dwarf light infantry and EM4 plastic dwarfs - so it's a Copplestone-heavy project. I will be teaching him basic conversion work, as we turn the EM4 dwarfs into serviceable Ranger models using bits from his Oathmark box.

May also brings with it a terrain pledge. I am hoping that I can take a single day out of my usual routine to make a ritual stone and perhaps a couple of woods.

Hopefully I can get some progress photos up soon.
