In the year 974 of the Imperial Calendar (-4 by the Bretonnia Calendar), the Knights of Glanborielle sallied forth in one last charge against the Greenskin hordes that would go on to ravage but ultimately united the Kingdom under Gilles le Breton. The Dukedom of Glanborielle would later go on to be absorbed into that of Carcassonne, extending its boundaries eastwards towards the fey realm of Athel Loren.
Despite the loss in that year, not all of the blood of the Dukedom was lost: some Knights were abroad, either on military or diplomatic errands, others were wounded and left on the field to die, only to drag themselves back from the brink and find their entire existence put to the flame under the Greenskin menace.
Glanborielle fell into myth and legend, a dead Dukedom from the time of the Uniter himself, a land of forgotten castles, run down watch towers and sacked hamlets, haunted by the ghosts of the long dead, infested with the loathsome Greenskins and occasionally even acting as hunting grounds for the unknowable Asari...
Until know.
Viscount Gabriel Drake has called the blood of Glanborielle to his banner: men and women both domestic and foreign, who have claim through lineage and marriage to this ancient land. With blade and bow he intends to reclaim the old Dukedom (or as much of it as he can) and establish once more a blood line, title and realm in this near forgotten corner of Bretonnia.
Unfortunately, such endeavours are not cheap: he will need men and material in abundance if he hopes to even establish the smallest of outposts within its borders, and double so if he intends to survive more than a single winter. If gold was the only of his problems it could be alleviated: a Duke, even the King, may be willing to finance such an expedition but Bretonnia is a realm whose currency is more than just gold: honour, prestige, piety and chivalry must be accrued both within the borders of the Kingdom and beyond, if he ever hopes to look towards that beautiful but dangerous land....

There is my general back story to my force: I have always been a Son of the Bretoni and this is an excellent opportuntiy to try something a little different.
As our brave and dashing (some would say insane and suicidal) Viscount is looking to lay a claim on an old Dukedom (which he assures everyone for which he has casus belli), he is going to need to finance an expedition. To that end he has thrown out a call for able men (and women) to meet his needs.
To start with he is only going to have a very limited few flock to his banner: the faithful and the desperate; to that end I wanted to start with Foot Knights and Archers, both of which represent the “lowest” class of Bretonnian society (Noble and non, respectively).
These fighting men have come to offer their service for one of two reasons: they believe in the cause, OR, they have no other option open to them.
As the project progresses, I want to add more to represent the Viscount’s growing reputation as a commander: much like a snowball, once it starts rolling it increases in size and potency.
More so, as the Viscount Crusades far and wide, who knows who else may join his banner: the ferocious Knights of the White Wolf share many of the Values of Bretonnia, and while Tilean Crossbow mercenaries are certainly lacking in honour, if they were to escort the pay wagon along the journey, only a fool would turn down their services! (Ok, so I might have my eyes on a few different models and want to make a “Mercenary” company but one that fights for things other than gold!)
Anyway, that’s enough from me....for now!
