Hi all!

So for this amazing project I’m going to build an army of the undead for Vampire Counts.

The theme will focus more on the creatures of death and the basic shambling hordes raised by necromancy rather than the Vampires and world ending armies of death.

The shambling congregation will be made up of a central block of Zombies led by a Master Necromancer. Then I’ll build up around that!

My necromancer goes by the name of “The Bishop”. Once rumoured a priest of Sigmar whose parishioners met a horrible fate during one of his services within his hillside church. Wracked with guilt and desperation to save their souls and reverse their demise, he learned of a dark tower full of secrets to resurrect the dead… One thing led to another and after his sanity finally broke after researching so many dark arts, his faithful now follow him wherever he goes adding to his undead herd with every village and graveyard they pass…

So far I’ve built the main block of zombies with graveyard scatter fillers and a big ol’tree! I still need to add mud and skulls to the bases. I’ve also built “The Bishop” and I may swap out his staff still for a scythe or something. See pics below!

Necromancers and the grim realities of Undeath are my bag, too. More so than Vampires - though  love those too, in truth.

I also love themed unit fillers. Are you basing these guys up for GW's new offering?

I just want to do something a bit different, a little smaller with more of a story, which the unit fillers help tell, rather than taking all the best units in the roster! Who knows what new models could be included in future as well.

As this is absolutely going to be for The Old World!

I bought one of the old army books for some inspiration (pic attached)

You can upload them to a website like imgur then click the insert link button while posting and drop the link there, it should show up as a picture in the forum.

I will see what I can do about image setting on Tuesday. I am run off my feet sorting out for the Launch on Monday at the minute. Once we are up and running I will look at the forum, for things like profile pics, images, etc.

Chapter 1: Humble Beginnings

"The Bishop closed his book of sermons with a loud damp slap. The large thick leather bound book flopping shut in the cold morning mists beneath his thin wizened hands. The hunched old man slid the book off of the rotting fence post he was using as a makeshift lectern and returned it to the folds underneath his robes.

This morning's oration had come to a pleasing end... He let out a long drawn out sigh of satisfaction through his yellow stained teeth, as his newly grown congregation came together as one and moaned their appreciation of his edicts, swaying together, on the spot, in the cold hanging fog.

The local town of Plumburg had been exceptionally easy to convert to his preachings, their militia was cobbled together of local townsfolk, not soldiers and those that hadn't fled had died, slowly rising again to join his flock for eternity shortly after. The one cannon they had time to bring to bare was so badly maintained and rusted, it had back fired killing it's crew instantly in a hail of flaming gunpowder making for a very pleasing sight for the eye.

But it wasn't the local populace that interested him, albeit they helped swell his parish... Nor was it the luscious farms and wheat fields in the area. It was their ancient burial ground, on the hill top nearby that was his true prize. The townspeople buried their newly deceased there and held services of reverence but it was the oldest, deepest crypts that he was the most interested in... He'd read in pilfered records that down in the dark of the small mausoleum lay an order of warriors of renown, who had perished fighting in a battle in the nearby marshlands, their glories now lost to the sands of time. Their bodies recovered and buried with the proper rights and prayers.

If he could find these tombs and add them to his flock, his throng's strength and power would swell immeasurably compared to that of the shambling corpses that currently followed him...

He looked eastwards across the treetops towards the hillock and grinned through his matted grey beard. Yes. This is where his next step lay and no one would stop him from bringing his enlightenment to the world."
